Eating Out in Glasgow
There are a number of different dining experiences in close proximity to the hotel.
The Battlefield Rest, a ten minute walk from the hotel, began life as a tram station and newsagent in 1915. In 1994 it was transformed into the bustling Italian restaurant that it is today. A favourite with Southsiders, the Battlefield Rest is a family friendly restaurant with a reputation for good quality food.
If you’re looking for something a bit different, Tinto won’t disappoint. Situated across the road from the Battlefield Rest, Tinto provides a range of tantalising tapas dishes. A relative newcomer to the Southside, Tinto has already proved popular with locals and visitors alike.
Shawlands, a short walk from the hotel past Queen’s Park, offers a wide range of restaurants. If you’re looking for an Italian restaurant, you’re spoilt for choice!
Spaghetti’s on Skirving Street is a lively restaurant offering a range of pizzas and pastas to suit every palate. Bella Napoli offers casual dining in its stylish café-bar, or more formal dining in the restaurant. Sit in one of the booths at the window and watch the world go by or marvel at the chefs creating their enormous 16 inch pizzas!
Shimla Pinks, situated at the corner of Queen’s Park on Pollokshaws Road is open for lunch and dinner and offers traditional Indian food in buffet and a la carte menu options. Further along Pollokshaws Road in Shawlands, Rana’s Little India is a favourite with the locals.
If you’re looking to sample a Scottish menu, The Giffnock Ivy in the nearby suburb of Giffnock provides a range of seafood and game. The lunch, pre-theatre and a la carte menus offer delights such as Loch Fyne mussels and Haggis in a Scottish Pie!
The Urban Grill in Shawlands has proved to be a favourite since it opened in late 2005. It offers all day menu for casual dining, cocktails, wines and a selection of beers. The busy bar has live piano music on Fridays and Saturdays or you can enjoy a lazy Sunday brunch with some jazz on Sunday. Urban Grill won The List magazine’s Glasgow Newcomer of the Year Award for 2006.
Reservations are advised for all restaurants, particularly at weekends. Hotel staff will be happy to assist with this.

If you’re looking for a lively bar or somewhere for a few quiet drinks, you’re spoilt for choice! There is a wide range of bars within walking distance of the hotel, offering something for everyone.
Up on the hill at the far side of Queen’s Park is Church on the Hill, a popular choice with locals throughout the week and at weekends. The large screens show the major sporting events and the beer garden proves particularly popular in the warmer months. Across from Church on the Hill is Agenda, which again is a busy local bar and is famous for its Thursday night quiz!
Shalwands has bars ranging from the ‘traditional’ to the more contemporary style-bar. There are far too many to mention, but here is a list of some of our favourites: Corona, Linen, The Granary, Jam, Stube (2 for1 pizzas). For late night entertainment, try Waverley Tea Room or Tusk.
We can’t thank you enough for all your helo and advice at our Golden Wedding Anniversary on 8th August 2009.
We had a wonderful evening. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the tables were absolutely beautiful. In fact everything was perfect, and we were proud to be able to entertain our family and friends in the Dunkeld.
Thanks again for a truly wonderful evening.
Yours Sincerely
